What is Aikido?
Aikido is a practical effective Japanese martial art derived from traditional jujutsu and Japanese swordsmanship. Aikido employs the use of the martial principle "aiki" or blending to receive, redirect and neutralize aggressive energy from an attacker. Click for more
Who is the instructor?
Maggie is the only female graduate of Chiba Shihan's program in Canada. She currently holds rank of Sandan (3rd degree black belt). She is also a certified bodyworker. Click for more
Where do we train?
We train in the band room of Shoreline Community School. It is a private room that suits instruction quite well. There are also gender specific change rooms. Click for map at bottom of page
When do we train?
We train on several evenings during the week and there are also classes availiable on the weekend. Click for schedule
How do I register and can I register and pay online?
You can either register at Shoreline Community during normal operating hours in person, by phone, or online. Payment can also be made online. Click for contact and registration information
What should I wear?
As a beginner, it is quite fine to wear any loose fitted clothing like one would wear to a gym such as sweat pants and a shirt. Note that shorts are not advised. If you already have a gi from other martial arts training, that can be worn as well as long as it is white.
What will I learn during the term?
During these 12 classes you will learn the basics of Aikido. There is great focus on body positioning and moving to keep you safe while performing and receiving the techniques being taught. You will learn basic effective self defense techniques that will progress with each class through the series.
If you should choose afterwards to become a member of the dogo, you will progress to learning more advance techniques and and will qualify to be tested and ranked. This rank will be reconized by The Head Dojo in Humbo, Japan.
