Goldstream Aikikai Etiquette Victoria Aikido

Dojo Etiquette

Always try to be on time and on the mats before class starts. If late, sit in seiza until the instructor beckons, bow and enter the class.

Use your eyes sharply, keep conversation to a minimum if at all. Train your eyes to steal the instruction.

During practice, allow the senior student to try the technique first unless they ask you to go first.

Avoid wearing jewellery and keep fingernails and toenails trimmed to avoid injury.

Be respectful of your partner.

If you are open and humble while practising, you will be much more likely to absorb what is being presented. Be studious in your exploration but refrain from arrogance or engaging in contests of strength or games.

Be sincere. Bring yourself completely to the class. Use self discipline and focus to free yourself from distractions in your mind or anything other than the practise.

In this you will reap the heart of practise.
